Dear Parents,
The Sierra Verde staff is making a commitment to reading! All research identifies that increased reading is the single best way to improve a child’s reading. With this in mind, we have selected our theme for the upcoming “Read Across America Week”. It is “Read Every Day”. Read Across America Week will be celebrated from February 24th -February 28tt. This event celebrates reading and honors one of the best loved children’s authors, Dr. Seuss.
Sierra Verde is not waiting until March to celebrate Dr. Seuss and his powerful message. We are asking families and students to pledge to read for 20 minutes every day. Everyone who pledges will be given a “hat stripe” to sign. These stripes will be added to our Media Center’s very own Cat in the Hat. We are hoping to create a hat so “Seussical” that it will make even the most discerning of milliners smile!
During the month of October all students will begin the pledge process with Mrs. Olofson. We are encouraging parents to support their students and take the pledge as well! Please take a moment to read the attachments and sign the pledge. Have your child return your signed pledge to his/her teacher and a stripe will be sent home for you to sign. Send the stripe back to school and it will be added to our ever growing "Sessical" hat!
Happy Reading!
